Factorio: saves between sessions

Your Factorio factory is automatically saved when the server stops and restored when you start again.

No manual export needed — stop the server and your factory is safe.

When saves happen

  • You click Stop in the dashboard
  • Idle auto-shutdown (no players for 20 minutes)
  • Server stopped due to out of credits (after grace period)

Autosave settings

In server config you can adjust:

  • Autosave interval — how often the server saves during active play
  • Autosave slots — how many rotating autosaves to keep

These apply while the server is running. The backup on stop is separate — that is what gets restored on the next start.

Picking up where you left off

  1. Start the server from the dashboard.
  2. Wait for running status.
  3. Connect with the same address as before.
  4. Your factory loads from the last backup.

Idle pause

When no players are online, Factorio can pause simulation (depending on config). Combined with idle auto-shutdown, this saves credits when nobody is playing.

Deleting the server

Deleting permanently removes all save data. This cannot be undone.
